Job Purpose:

Position: Air Pollution Control Specialist I
Department: Regional Air Pollution Control Agency
Office: Environmental Health

Hours: Full-time, M – F 8:00 am – 4:30 pm
Starting Salary: B24 $23.50 – $48,880.00/Annual
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science or related degree
• Proficiency in utilizing a PC with MS Office software experience
• Current valid Ohio Driver’s License and access to a motor vehicle

Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Operates air monitoring equipment including setting up filters, performing quality assurance checks and validating data; troubleshooting problems and issues
• Performs preventative maintenance and repair of monitoring equipment such as motors and pumps, data logging equipment
• Performs miscellaneous housekeeping and grounds keeping using hand tools at monitoring sites
• Conducts special projects in quality assurance, toxic air pollution and industrial air pollution
• Performs functions utilizing Ohio EPA and U.S. EPA software and databases to prepare and submit data and documents
• Evaluates industrial source compliance through inspections, report review and stack emissions testing
• Performs industrial air permit application reviews and prepares permit terms and conditions
• Prepares and reviews engineering calculations to determine air pollutant concentrations and emissions
• Performs complaint investigations
• Assists with addressing non-compliance issues regarding local, state and federal rules
• Writes technical reports and assists in the preparation of legal or public documents
• Reviews and prepares comments on rules, regulations, policies and plans
• Work on quality improvement projects and draft Standard Operating Guidelines
• Represents agency on technical work groups, with other government agencies, the regulated community and with public citizens
• Performs other duties as assigned
• May be required to play an active role in the event of a public health emergency, which may include changes in responsibilities and working hours.
