Position Summary
Automation Systems & Design is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented CNC Machinist to join our team in Moraine, Ohio. This position is responsible for setting up, programming, operating, and maintaining CNC machining equipment to manufacture precision components used in custom automation systems, tooling, fixtures, and industrial machinery. The ideal candidate will possess strong machining knowledge, blueprint-reading skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
The CNC Machinist will play a vital role in supporting the fabrication and assembly of custom automation equipment by producing precision-machined components that meet exact engineering specifications.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot CNC mills, lathes, and other machining equipment.
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, CAD models, and work instructions.
- Program CNC machines using G-code and CAM software as required.
- Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, feeds, and speeds to optimize production efficiency and quality.
- Manufacture precision components to tight tolerances and customer specifications.
- Perform first-piece inspections and in-process quality checks using precision measuring instruments.
- Inspect completed parts to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.
- Modify existing programs and machine setups to improve quality and efficiency.
- Perform routine machine maintenance and report equipment issues as needed.
- Collaborate with engineers, toolmakers, assemblers, and project managers to support production goals and project timelines.
- Maintain accurate production records and documentation.
- Follow all company safety procedures, quality standards, and OSHA regulations.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical school certification, vocational training, apprenticeship, or equivalent machining experience preferred.
- Minimum of 3 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing or machine shop environment preferred.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tooling, cutting parameters, and metalworking processes.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and engineering specifications.
- Experience with CNC mills, lathes, and precision machining equipment.
- Proficiency with measuring tools including micrometers, calipers, bore gauges, indicators, and height gauges.
- Basic knowledge of CNC programming and editing.
- Strong mathematical and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform repetitive motions throughout the workday.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds regularly and heavier materials with assistance.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to machine noise, coolants, lubricants, and metal chips.
- Manual dexterity and visual acuity required for precision machining and inspection tasks.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed footwear.
