Position Summary
Automation Systems & Design is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Industrial Painter to join our manufacturing team in Moraine, Ohio. This position is responsible for preparing, painting, and finishing a variety of fabricated metal components, equipment, and industrial products. The ideal candidate will have experience with industrial coatings, surface preparation techniques, and spray-painting equipment while maintaining a strong commitment to quality, safety, and productivity.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Prepare metal surfaces for painting through cleaning, sanding, grinding, masking, and other preparation methods.
- Mix paints, primers, and coatings according to manufacturer specifications and production requirements.
- Apply industrial coatings using spray guns, brushes, rollers, and other painting equipment.
- Inspect painted surfaces to ensure proper coverage, finish quality, and adherence to specifications.
- Identify and correct coating defects such as runs, drips, orange peel, or inconsistent coverage.
- Read and interpret work orders, blueprints, and paint specifications.
- Maintain paint booths, spray equipment, and related tools in proper working condition.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of painting equipment.
- Follow established quality control standards and inspection procedures.
- Monitor coating thickness and ensure compliance with customer and engineering requirements.
- Safely handle paints, solvents, thinners, and other hazardous materials.
- Assist with material movement and staging of parts throughout the painting process.
- Collaborate with fabrication, assembly, and production teams to meet project deadlines.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 2 years of industrial painting experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Experience operating conventional and HVLP spray equipment.
- Knowledge of industrial paints, primers, epoxies, urethanes, and specialty coatings.
- Ability to read and interpret work instructions and specifications.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Basic math and measurement skills.
Preferred:
- Experience painting fabricated steel, machinery, control panels, or industrial equipment.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and paint booth operations.
- Experience with powder coating processes is a plus.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, and reach throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators.
- Ability to work in manufacturing environments with exposure to noise, dust, paint fumes, and varying temperatures.
- Ability to perform repetitive motions involving hands, wrists, and arms.
Work Environment
- Manufacturing and industrial production environment.
- Exposure to paints, solvents, chemicals, and airborne particulates.
- Use of paint booths, ventilation systems, and safety equipment.
- Compliance with all company safety policies and procedures is required.
