In-Home Appliance Repair Technician

Job Type: Full-Time

Position Summary

We are seeking a skilled and customer-focused In-Home Appliance Repair Technician to join our team in Dayton, OH. In this role, you will diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair a wide range of residential appliances in customers’ homes. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise, excellent communication skills, and the ability to work independently while delivering exceptional customer service. Safety, professionalism, and protecting customer property are top priorities in this role.

Key Responsibilities

Daily Preparation

  • Review and organize assigned service calls each day.
  • Contact customers to confirm appointments, discuss appliance issues, and gather relevant information to support efficient service.

In-Home Service & Diagnostics

  • Travel to customer locations using a company-provided vehicle.
  • Greet customers professionally and provide excellent customer service.
  • Diagnose appliance issues using technical knowledge, schematics, and diagnostic tools.
  • Clearly explain findings, repair recommendations, and cost estimates to customers.

Appliance Repair & Maintenance

  • Repair or replace defective components including motors, compressors, pumps, valves, and electronic control boards.
  • Order or retrieve necessary parts as needed.
  • Safely operate hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Complete repairs according to manufacturer specifications and industry standards.
  • Test appliances after repairs to ensure proper operation.

Customer Service

  • Maintain a professional appearance and positive attitude.
  • Communicate repair updates clearly and effectively.
  • Answer customer questions and provide appliance care and maintenance recommendations.

Safety & Property Protection

  • Follow all company safety policies and use required PPE.
  • Safely operate company vehicles in compliance with traffic laws.
  • Protect customer property using coverings and safe handling practices.
  • Identify and report hazards in customer homes.
  • Use proper lifting techniques and moving equipment such as dollies and straps.

Administrative & Inventory Duties

  • Complete service documentation, invoices, and parts orders accurately and on time.
  • Maintain a clean and organized company vehicle.
  • Manage truck stock inventory to ensure tools and common parts are available.
  • Attend ongoing training to stay current with new appliance technologies and repair techniques.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
  • Previous appliance repair experience preferred, including multiple brands and models.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals and schematics.
  • Excellent problem-solving and diagnostic abilities.
  • Strong customer service and communication skills.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  • Comfortable using smartphones or tablets for service scheduling and documentation.
  • EPA Section 608 Certification preferred (not required).
  • Must successfully pass:
    • State, federal, and driving background checks
    • Pre-employment and random/concurrent drug screenings

Physical Requirements

  • Frequent lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling of appliances and parts (up to 75–100 lbs. or more with proper equipment/assistance).
  • Prolonged standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching.
  • Manual dexterity for handling tools and small components.
  • Ability to work in tight or confined spaces and awkward positions.
  • Ability to work in varying indoor/outdoor temperatures and weather conditions.
  • Must be able to climb stairs and ladders.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed primarily in customers’ homes with varying conditions and accessibility.
  • Daily local travel required using a company vehicle.
  • Exposure to dust, dirt, cleaning chemicals, and varying temperatures.
  • Potential exposure to electrical systems and moving mechanical parts.
  • Occasional exposure to loud noise.
