Position Summary
Automation Systems & Design is seeking a skilled and dependable Welder/Fabricator to join our growing team in Moraine, Ohio. This position is responsible for fabricating, welding, assembling, and finishing metal components used in custom automation equipment, machine builds, structural frames, and industrial systems. The ideal candidate will possess strong blueprint-reading skills, experience with various welding processes, and a commitment to producing high-quality work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, schematics, and work orders.
- Fabricate and assemble custom metal components, machine frames, fixtures, guards, platforms, and structural assemblies.
- Perform MIG, TIG, and Stick welding on carbon steel, stainless steel, and aluminum materials.
- Measure, cut, bend, grind, and fit materials to precise specifications.
- Operate fabrication equipment including saws, drill presses, ironworkers, plasma cutters, and other shop machinery.
- Inspect completed welds and fabricated assemblies to ensure compliance with quality standards and customer specifications.
- Perform finishing work such as grinding, polishing, deburring, and surface preparation.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Collaborate with engineers, machinists, assemblers, and project teams to ensure projects are completed accurately and on schedule.
- Identify and report material shortages, equipment issues, or quality concerns.
- Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and OSHA regulations.
- Assist with installation and field work as needed.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Technical training, welding certification, or trade school education preferred.
- Minimum of 2 years of welding and fabrication experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment preferred.
- Proficiency in MIG welding required; TIG and Stick welding experience preferred.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, welding symbols, and fabrication drawings.
- Strong mathematical and measuring skills.
- Experience using precision measuring tools including tape measures, calipers, squares, and levels.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and lift throughout the workday.
- Frequently lift and move materials weighing up to 50 pounds; occasional lifting of heavier materials with assistance or lifting equipment.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to heat, noise, dust, and welding fumes.
- Must be physically capable of working in confined spaces, elevated areas, and various fabrication positions as required.
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE), including welding helmets, gloves, safety glasses, and steel-toed footwear.
Preferred Skills
- Welding certifications (AWS or equivalent).
- Experience with custom machine building or automation equipment fabrication.
- Forklift and overhead crane experience.
- Mechanical assembly experience.
- Understanding of lean manufacturing principles.
